| As my Lj friend Michelle [mmmxperimental] alerted me, there is a BETA Livejournal profile you can now try on, and it incorporates into the page the same LjSeek journal search engine I have mentioned previously. You dun even need to sign up for it. I will mention again also that LjSeek keeps a cached copy you can view of published posts you later decide to delete. [if you have a personal account, you can request them to take these posts OFF their database). So all the posts I deleted are still available as cache on the search, even the pics. :) The BETA page gives you a lot of information formerly put on 2 pages. | |

| I have taken to just posting art pictures because when I write from my heart, it goes unnoticed. If I post an article, it provokes no discussion. If I look for pictures and post them, at least in the end, I can look back on them, and they give me pleasure. I am not complaining any more. I am just explaining for anyone who might wonder. Daily I look at the things my friends post and usually comment to them unless I feel they would prefer I do not. I used to think of journaling as interactive, but my political journal showed me otherwise, although I get comments there from time to time and requests for research assistance. The other day I read a link from my friend's Lj that was so astute and so excellently written concerning the present political crisis in this country, yet only one person had commented. Sometimes I read the latest posts link over at Dj, and some of the people will be having a major crisis in their lives, yet not one comment will be posted. Have these people no friends? Or are people on social networking sites such as Dj and Lj just there for their own vanity and ego? Do people not want feedback? Or do they get it from other sources? Why journal it then in public? I think about all these things, and I wonder. 'Backstage' 'The French Window'By Ignat Ignatov | |

| News from Livejournal this morning says that by the end of summer the 'basic accounts' option will be available once again to all users, so hopefully no one will have to opt for the intrusive, ugly and poorly placed ads the 'Plus' accounts are forced to have now. Now if someone on staff would just learn the art of placing simple text ads in strategic places, Lj would look a LOT better. Also, if Lj would increase their default number of userpics from the ridiculous 6 to something more attractive, that would be sweet. At InsaneJournal, the default is 100. At Inksome, I have 150. :) | |

| There is one French word I do understand. I translate it to mean, simply, courteous behaviour. As regards a journal, there are some things I consider good manners, but evidently many people dun give it a thought.
I have been what they say 'blogging' for about 5 years. The site that I started with is a fairly busy one, but it is not personal. It serves as a news archive for the happenings in my home country with my people. It is my way of contributing something to the cause of Irish nationalism at this point in my life when I find myself out of country due to me experiences previously in the pursuit of nationalism. Enough about that.
That site is very busy, yet it seldom gets comments, and sometimes when it does, they are very derogatory. This I expect. I simply delete the comments which are totally disrespectful and insulting. One of my sites is so sensitive to me, that I dun even allow unmoderated comments at all. I must approve. I have been accused by some as being wrong to do this and that it is a form of censorship. Of course it is. It's my site. It's my call.
But concerning the other comments I get on that site, many of them are requesting help or information. If I run an article on a convent establishing a prayerline, I will even get comments asking ME for prayers. Such is the nature of the internet.
I always try to answer my comments, and my emails I receive as a result of my posts. I consider it my responsibility to do so. If I did not, I would feel horribly derelict. If I dun know what the information is that is asked for, I will try to point the person in the right direction with links and whatnot. 'Tis the least I can do.
On my personal journals, I have received many comments, and most are in the nature of simple conversation. My friends and acquaintences are acknowledging that I am there and they are saying 'hello Oona.' Sometimes they comment directly about my post. I am always glad to receive comments. If it is a one off type of comment, I always answer it back. If we start commenting back and forth, then I won't feel totally obligated to answer every single one because it will have to trail off somewhere.
This is common courtesy in my opinion. I also think it is my responsibility to check on my friends' posts frequently. If they are writing about something esoteric with which I have no experience, then I will pass on the comments, but I have some friends who never come to see me. They will answer me if I comment to them, but they never take the time to come to my house. This I consider rude, but then perhaps they are busy or have a lot of friends. On melo, I had close to 300 friends, but when someone made me a comment, I answered them back. I did not read all their posts every day of course, but I did look at the titles to see what I might like to read. If someone dropped from view for a long time, I would go over and ask about them.
I have been told that I have no life and that I have nothing else to do with myself, but during the regular year, I do work full time and I have pets I care for, so this is not entirely true. That I prefer the computer to dealing with real people in person is certainly true however. That's just me.
So, that is my take on journal etiquette. :) | |

| At another Lj clone site this morning, I made a community for cat lovers. I thought it might be fun and also beneficial for people to have some place to go to ask questions or to share information or to simply celebrate the beauty of our feline friends. I have never started a community before, so I had no idea how to do it, but I think everything is going well. I have it set up. I just need to see if anyone there will be interested. :) I looked on Lj and found a very nice one called cat_lovers, and it seems commendable in many ways. The introduction states the rules, which are reasonable and not arrogant elitist bullshit like some communities I have seen. I looked at the posts, and questions and concerns get quick reader response and some really solid and knowledgeable replies. It's a going concern! I thought about making one here at Deadjournal because all the ones I saw were rather...well, dead, but I am a bit leery of it. I dun want to hear a bunch of horror stories concerning animals. I'll think about it. I dunno. :/ Wish me luck please! :) | |

| On tsfkas, the user 'miang' gave a link to a gj account which explained how to make some extra layouts at Lj clone sites. Many allow their free users to do this. Deadjournal does not, but I can do it on my paid account, so I will include the instruction links for anyone interested. The two layouts I was interested in importing to Deadjournal were Smooth Sailing and Flexible Squares. Both work quite well here. Once you make your actual layers, you will find them when you go to the customisation section and look for your custom layers as a type or just search for the layout names in the little box. It is just nice to have them in case you want to use them. I have a really sweet layout called Kumponent1 over at Gj, but I canny get it to work anywhere else. I will have to research this. Please go to musycal_test for instructions. You might want to copy them all as GJ is not long for this world. :( | |

| I have stumbled onto a little Lj clone site called Inksome, which used to be called Scribblit. I joined just because I am lame and make sites all over the net. It appeared pretty dead over there, but I am finding out that the site consists of these group role players. Now, you might think that they are role playing something exciting like a fantasy video game or some glamorous lifestyle, but get this! I just read a couple journals where the whole story line is going to revolve around an apartment house in Milwaukee! :O I mean, come ON! An apartment house? I thought my life was dull. | |
